winners announced

Mountain Thunder and Hawaiian Queen Coffee are the top winners of the Kona Coffee Cupping Competition.

Mountain Thunder won the classic division, beating out 60 single-estate farms, ranging from full-time commercial operations to tiny boutiques. Mauka Meadow got second place and Mauka Fire got third in this division.

Hawaiian Queen Coffee won the crown division, which had nine large farms and professional processing mills. Heavenly Hawaiian took second place and Arianna Ono Kona Coffee was third in this division.

A signature event of the 43rd annual Kona Coffee Cultural Festival, the competition strives to find the best brews with the classic Kona coffee characteristics, including a fragrant floral aroma, mellow acidity, subtle winy tones, medium mellow body and mellow sweetness.

The Kona Coffee Cupping Competition was held last week at the Sheraton Kona Resort & Spa at Keauhou Bay. It was produced by the Kona Coffee Council.
